Cognos 8 Security -- Active Directory

If your Cognos security architecture involves using Active Directory and you receive the following error message when attempting to authenticate:

‘We were not able to connect to your Directory Server. Are your host name and port correct? Details: Invalid credentials”

Then you need to validate if you are using a user that isn’t the Administrator user, however they do have full administrative privileges.  You would have to  check the user account by viewing the user’s properties in the AD Users and Computers console. Make sure that the Unrestricted User distinguished name (DN) entry refers to the account name and NOT the user sign-on value.

For instance, a user named C8Administrator has a user sign-on of “C8”. Using this string as the Unrestricted User distinguished name (DN) “cn=C8, cn=users, dc=domain, dc=com” will fail. However, using the following value, “cn= C8Administrator, cn=users, dc=domain, dc=com”, will work.
